Equipment List

Hydration Requirements

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends drinking 1 liter of water per hour for moderate activity in moderate conditions. This is equivalent to two 16.9 oz/500ml bottles of water per hour. Everyone should come to events with an appropriate hydration system. Examples of hydration systems include: hydration packs, canteens, reusable water bottles, and flasks. The required size of the system is dependent on event level and activity.

We all should constantly manage our hydration level during all event activities. Daytime temperatures, dry climate, and elevation, coupled with strenuous outdoor activities can increase how quickly we may become dehydrated. Although water is available during mealtimes, as well as before and after activity times, each participant MUST carry water for all activities conducted away from event sites (e.g. hikes, waterfront, climbing, etc.)

See Hydration below for the specific recommendation/requirement for your event.

Please label all of your belongings with your name and ward.

Male and female leaders must have separate sleeping facilities. Married couples may share the same quarters if appropriate facilities are available.

If adult leaders and children or youth share other overnight facilities, such as a cabin, there must be at least two adults in the facility, and they must be the same gender as the child or youth.

See Overnight Activities, General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (20.5.5 ¶:3-5)

For additional information please discuss the topic with your Bishopric or the event director of your specific event.

  • We expect all youth to dress modestly and appropriately for events.

Dress requirements vary between events. Equipment lists are provided for each event, which include the required clothing. They also including what not to bring. Example: Trek requires period dress.

However, the equipment lists cannot be expected to cover all items which would be appropriate or inappropriate. As such, consider the following when choosing what to wear:

We have been continually counseled to dress modestly. When you are well groomed and modestly dressed, you invite the companionship of the Spirit.

Never lower your standards of dress. Do not use an event/activity as an excuse to be immodest.

Immodest clothing is any clothing that is tight, sheer, or revealing in any other manner. Young women should avoid short shorts and short skirts, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and clothing that does not cover the shoulders or is low-cut in the front or the back. Young men should also maintain modesty in their appearance. Young men and young women should be neat and clean and avoid being extreme or inappropriately casual in clothing, hairstyle, and behavior. They should choose appropriately modest apparel when participating in sports.

If you are not sure what is appropriate to wear, study the words of the prophets, pray for guidance, and ask your parents or leaders for help.

These events are for you. The purpose of youth events are to help youth interact with others and have fun. By nature, all events are designed to be as inclusive as possible but certain considerations may require special attention and adaptation. If you have specific concerns, address them as early as possible with the event director(s) of your specific event. Also, be sure to mention any considerations while registering. We want to help all youth have an enjoyable experience and participate.

  • Cell phone coverage at event sites is typically sparse at best.

Events do not provide WIFI or WIFI passwords.

Cell phones and cell phone use are generally discouraged. Cell phones may become lost or damaged while participating in some events (like camping). Youth are responsible for loss or damage of personal property if brought. Check an event's equipment list to determine if cell phones are prohibited at a specific event.

Note: Cell phones or other electronics may be taken from participants, at the discretion of leaders, if they are becoming a distraction from proper participation.
